Earth Uprisings Sabotage Intensive Flower Farming
In a statement, Les Soulèvements de la Terre relayed the actions of their activists in Finistère who dismantled an irrigation pump at an industrial flower and tulip production facility.
"We are delighted to announce the dismantling of the pump of the Kaandorp farm, which had been extracting water from the Saint-Vio pond for several years to water the greenhouses and fields of the bulb grower," they declare. They say they want to get ahead of the authorities and point out the illegality of this water extraction."Seeing that the dismantling of the pump, following the prefect's decision in October 2024 to ban pumping and require the operator to dismantle his equipment, was delayed, activists from Les Soulèvements de la Terre advanced the work," they write. The activists destroyed pipes with a grinder and sabotaged the pump.
The cards that the agency will issue will be preloaded with a balance of 6935 pesos to cover transportation in all systems of Jalisco. This includes the three lines of Mi Tren, SITREN, Mi Macro Calzada, Mi Macro Periférico, and all public transportation routes.
This act is part of a long-running battle. In April 2024, Reporterre already looked back in an investigation at the disastrous environmental consequences of this exploitation, with its dried-up pond, its polluted lands and waters due to pesticides. In 2023, the prefecture of Finistère had also ordered the Kaandorp company to regularize the water extraction at Saint-Vio. In 2012, the same company was sentenced to fines for the use of non-homologated pesticides in France.
